Session Sweep + Inversion FVG
The bread-and-butter model of MFT. Asia or London builds an obvious high and low. Early in the New York session price runs one of those extremes, takes the stops resting there, fails to continue and snaps back. On the way back it closes decisively through an existing fair value gap. That gap is now inverted: what was support becomes resistance, or the other way round. You enter on the retest of that inverted gap.
Why it works
Retail stops sit directly above session highs and below session lows. Price is drawn there to fill large orders. Once that liquidity is consumed and price cannot hold beyond the level, the move was a raid, not a breakout — and the real move usually goes the other way with the whole session range as fuel.
Levels on 15m. Confirmation and entry on 1m or 5m.
Best between 09:30 and 11:30 New York time.
The checklist
- 1A clean, obvious Asia or London high/low is visible on 15m.
- 2Price wicks through that level and the candle body closes back inside the range.
- 3A displacement candle sends price back through a prior fair value gap and closes beyond it.
- 4Price returns to retest that now-inverted gap from the other side.
Execution
Limit order in the inverted gap on the retest, or a 1m market entry when the retest candle rejects.
A few ticks beyond the sweep wick. If that wick is taken out the model is simply wrong.
First the opposite side of the session range, then the previous day high or low. Usually 2R to 4R.
When you should not take it
- Never take it when the sweep candle closes outside the level — that is a real break, not a raid.
- Skip it in the two minutes before and after high-impact news (CPI, FOMC, NFP).
- Skip it if price has already covered most of its average daily range.
