Micro vs mini futures: tick values for NQ, ES and Gold
The fastest way to blow an account is to not know what a point is worth. Here is the cheat sheet.
Tick value table
| Contract | Tick | Per tick | Per point |
|---|---|---|---|
| NQ | 0.25 | $5.00 | $20 |
| MNQ | 0.25 | $0.50 | $2 |
| ES | 0.25 | $12.50 | $50 |
| MES | 0.25 | $1.25 | $5 |
| GC | 0.10 | $10.00 | $100 |
| MGC | 0.10 | $1.00 | $10 |
Risk examples
- A 30-point NQ stop on 5 MNQ = 30 × $2 × 5 = $300.
- A 6-point ES stop on 5 MES = 6 × $5 × 5 = $150.
- A 5-point gold stop on 5 MGC = 5 × $10 × 5 = $250.
One mini equals ten micros
Prop firms usually count size in minis, so 10 micros use the same allowance as 1 mini. Micros let you scale out in small pieces — for example 5 micros split 2/2/1 across three targets.
